Pappu Yadav sets off row with remarks

Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav courted controversy on Monday by saying he saw nothing wrong in the burning of the Indian flag in Kashmir.
“I don’t see anything wrong if people are burning Indian flags in Jammu and Kashmir and shouting anti-India slogans while protesting,” Lok Sabha MP and Jan Adhikar Morcha chief Pappu Yadav said in Saharsa on Monday.
Pappu Yadav, alias Rajesh Ranjan, who had floated the political party Jan Adhikar Morcha ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls after being expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, also said that “real deshdrohis are saints and those who shout anti-India slogans or burn flags should be treated as mere protesters”.
Reacting sharply to the issue, leaders of the BJP in Bihar said that “a case of sedition must be made against him for making such anti-national statements”.
According to BJP senior leader and party MP Ram Kripal, “such statements cannot be tolerated at all and he being a public representative must refrain from making such controversial and provocative comments”.
Yadav also faced sharp criticism from the Congress party.
A senior Congress leader, Prem Chand Mishra, while condemning the statement, said, “Such incidents cannot be taken lightly as flag-burning is anti-national.”
