Pakistan Army shuts Twitter, Facebook accounts

The Pakistan Army has shut down all its official FB accounts and twitter handles.

The Pakistan Army has shut down all its official FB accounts and twitter handles. They were active till Sunday evening and were being used to counter the Indian Army’s recent strikes against terror camps apart from reacting to comments by Indians. Only one twitter account related to the public relations wing of the Pakistan Army is now active.

The Pakistan Army and its information wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) used to maintain five official Twitter and FB accounts, providing information about day-to-day activities, achievements, important messages and information on joint drills with other countries. Following the surgical strikes on September 28, the Pakistani Army had responded through these social media accounts.

The ISPR claimed that two Indian soldiers had died, and posted their file photographs on both the ISPR and Army’s Face-book pages apart from General Asim Bajwa’s FB page and Twitter handle.

On Sunday evening, the FB pages were shut down and posts on sensitive matters were removed from some Twitter accounts.

Barring the ISPR’s Twitter account, no other official social media account of the Pakistan Army is active on the Internet.
