Radha was a member of the Kalimela Dalam and was working with the group for the past 14 years. There are over 50 cases pending against her. She was carrying a cash reward of Rs 40 lakh on her head.
“Radha was involved in the attack on G. Udayagiri police station in Kandhamal district, Damanjodi mines in Koraput district, landmine blast in MV-126 village in Malkangiri district and ambush in Janhiguda,” informed superintendent of police.
Welcoming the woman Maoist to the mainstream, the SP said efforts would be made to ensure her livelihood as per the surrender rehabilitation policy of the state government.
With the Maoists observing the Martyrs’ week beginning Thursday till August 3, security has been tightened across Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts.
Maoists posters and banners put up by the red rebels on account of the observance of the Martyrs’ week were seen at various places.
In Koraput district, the police is on high alert have been beefed up. Check posts have been set up at various entry points into the district and vehicles entering Koraput are being checked by police personnel.
According sources, government bus services on various routes have been cancelled on account of the Martyrs’ week. Government buses on Jeypore-Malkangiri, Bhadarchalam-Paua and Rayagada routes stayed off road.
