The Orissa police on Monday arrested six people in connection with the murder of a woman at Chhend’s Bank Colony near Rourkela, around 450 km from here.

The arrested were identified as Kamal Kishore Oram, husband of the deceased, Kamal’s sister-in-law, an unidentified woman and three contract killers from Jharkhand.

The police said Kamal, who works as a deputy manager at the State Bank of India’s Chhend branch, had plotted the murder of his wife, Janaki Oram, after she came to know about his illicit relationship with his sister-in-law.

“Kamal has confessed to the crime. He has narrated the entire murder plot and we are investigating more into the case,” the local police said. On September 7, Janaki was found dead with her throat slit at Bank Colony. Her 15-day-old baby girl, who was also attacked by the miscreants, was rescued and admitted to hospital. Janaki’s mother had lodged a complaint against Kamal’s family members, accusing them of murder.

The police had a tough time solving the case as Kamal initially did not admit to have committed the crime. He, instead, claimed that some dacoits had killed his wife and even lodged a complaint of robbery with the local police stations. However, suspecting foul play, the police examined his telephone call records and came to know that he was the key man behind the murder.
