The alleged links of the suspected Al Qaeda in Indian Sub Continent terrorist Abdur Rehman with some leaders of the ruling BJD has kicked off bitter political row in Orissa with the Opposition Congress and BJP on Friday demanding clarifications from the former on its “patronage” to Rehman.

Rehman, who was on December 16 arrested from Satabatia village under Jagatpur police limits in Cuttack district by the Special Cell of Delhi police, allegedly got support from some local BJD politicians to run an “unregistered” and “unauthorised” madrasa near his village.

The madrasa had 85 students from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa.“The police claims that Abdur Rehman was under its watch since long. If this true, how could he run his activities without any hurdles all these years ” asked leader of the Opposition from Congress Narasingh Mishra.

The Congress leader demanded a high-level probe to unearth the links that the terror suspect might have with the BJD leaders.

BJP leader Pratap Sarangi also suspected a relationship between Rehman and some BJD MLAs. “Unless some BJD MLAs have a relation with the suspected terrorist, how could he continue his activities in Orissa And how did he get a passport and travelled to foreign lands All these need to be probed,” said Mr Sarangi.
