Operation launched to target top Naxals

Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DSZC) secretary Ramanna, alias Ravulu Srinivas, was the prime target of the anti-Naxal operation launched by security forces at Dabbamarka, in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, on March 3 in which three CoBRA commandos were killed, a senior CRPF officer said on Monday.
The commandant of the 208th CoBRA battalion, P.S. Yadav, who led a joint operation involving his men and personnel of the district reserve group (DRG) in Dabbamarka forest on the day, said, “We had received inputs that Ramanna and his wife Sabitri were scheduled to camp at Tondamarka on March 2. Besides, Hidma, commander of the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion number one was also scheduled to camp at the nearby place of Bade Kedwal on the day. Hence we launched an operation to target the two key Maoist leaders.”
Mr Yadav, who sustained bullet injuries in the March 3 encounter with Naxals at Dabbamarka which left three CoBRA commandos dead and 13 others, including himself, injured, said the operation was successful barring the casualties because his men tackled the guerrillas for nearly 12 hours in their own bastion.
Mr Yadav and 12 jawans of 208th CoBRA battalion have been admitted to two specialised hospitals here.
He said intelligence had first alerted them about the movement of PLGA battalion number one from Tondemarka to Bode Kedwal on February 19.
