Oommen Chandy threatens to sue VS Achuthanandan

Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy has threatened to sue Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan if he does not apologise and stop spreading “blatant lies”.

Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy has threatened to sue Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan if he does not apologise and stop spreading “blatant lies”. The Opposition leader had alleged that the chief minister had 31 cases pending against him and 136 against his ministers in the Supreme Court.

The chief minister, in a statement here on Sunday, said that Mr Achuthanandan should “immediately tell me which these cases are. If he does not, I will be forced to take legal steps against him.”

“A mere complaint or a petition does not become a case. For registering a case, the first step is registering an FIR. Mr Achuthanandan should produce one FIR to prove the allegations,” he said.

“The only FIR (involving the government) is against former finance minister K.M. Mani. The vigilance has submitted a report to the court exonerating him. It is now under the consideration of the vigilance court.”

Earlier, Mr Achuthanandan had made another allegation of assigning land illegally to Shafi Mether, the CM’s former economic adviser, against which he has filed a defamation suit.

Meanwhile, the two continued their attacks on Facebook. Mr Achuthanandan ridiculed the questions the chief minister raised, saying he has only questions and no answers at all.

“I had replied to Mr Chandy’s political questions on Facebook,” he said. “I had asked him some questions on issues like the palmolein case and the spy case. However, he has not replied to any of the questions. I had answered his questions, but he did not do so. This is his political stunt.”

In his post, Mr Chandy described Mr Achuthanandan as someone who compromises on his principles for power and his “election-time change of colour” was being witnessed now. “He has swallowed whatever he said so far for the sake of power,” the CM wrote.
