Nuke-capable MRSAM tested for 3rd time in 2 days

India on Friday successfully conducted the test-firing of the new medium range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) from the interim test range at Chandipur off the Orissa coast, nearly 250 km from here.
This was the third consecutive test-firing of the weapon since Thursday.
“With a third consecutive successful test-firing today, the MRSAM air defence system has achieved a hat-trick. The missile was launched at 10.20 am from the test range of ITR, Chandipur. The objective of today’s mission was for maximum range and high manoeuvring target. The missile guided by an armoured seeker system hit the last-minute manoeuvring target,” a DRDO official said.
With this launch, MRSAM system has proved the air defence capability for three different boundary envelopes of the target.
The system provides reliable air defence at medium ranges. The MSRM system can carry both nuclear and conventional weapons.
On Thursday morning, India had twice successfully test-fired the MRSAM from ITR, Chandipur. The missile was first successfully fired from a mobile launcher at around 08.15 am and again at 3.45 pm.
Many Indian industries like BEL, L&T, BDL, TATA Group of companies besides other private industries have contributed to the development of a number of subsystems which have been put into use in this flight test.
