Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav has written to his chief Mulayam Singh Yadav that the latter would be held responsible if the party did not perform well in the assembly elections due next year.
Mr Ram Gopal Yadav, the cousin of SP chief, also said that Mr Akhilesh Yadav should be named as the party’s chief ministerial candidate, two days after Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav announced that the MLAs and parliamentary board would select the next CM.
“The work done by the present government of UP is an example for the country and Akhilesh is the most popular leader. Whatever has happened in the past few days has disappointed party supporters which has given rise to resentment against the leadership,” reads the letter.
“It pains people that the party has slipped down because of the wrong advice of selected leaders. People who are advising you (SP chief) nowadays have no standing in the eyes of people,” the letter said.
The leader goes on to warn Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav that “the public will blame him for the fall of the party. History is very cruel, it does not spare anyone.”
Party sources said that Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was in Delhi on Saturday, rushed to his cousin’s residence and held a meeting for almost three hours.
SP leaders expressed shock at the language of the letter.
