NDA allies, Shiv Sena and TDP, on Wednesday launched scathing attacks on the government during discussion on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha.

NDA allies, Shiv Sena and TDP, on Wednesday launched scathing attacks on the government during discussion on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha. While the Shiv Sena asked, “where are the jobs” and sought rollback of one per cent excise duty on jewellery, the TDP accused the government of reneging on the assurance for special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

The Shiv Sena MP in the Lok Sabha Arvind Sawant said that the “achchhe din” will come when people on the grounds begin saying so, while asking where are the job creation. He mentioned that jobs in the BPO sector and elsewhere are moving out of the country.

Mr Sawant too took the up the issue of the imposition of one per cent excise duty on jewellery strongly, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, when in the Opposition, had opposed the UPA government’s similar step. “I do not understand the logic behind imposing excise duty on jewellery. Once GST comes in, Central excise will get abolished then what is the necessity of imposing it now,” said Mr Sawant, while adding that the government should intropect the decision and roll it back as was done in the case of the proposal of taxing the EPF withdrawal.

Another NDA ally, the TDP, launched scathing attack on the government for not fulfilling the assurance given by the former PM Manmohan Singh in the Lok Sabha to grant the status of the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

“Even the PM during the election campaign in 2014 had assured at a rally in Tirupathy that the special category status will be granted to Andhra Pradesh. The BJP leader M. Venkaih Naidu too had promised the people of Andhra Pradesh. But the promises have not been kept,” said Mr Jaydev Galla of the TDP in the Lok Sabha.

Mr Galla asked what would be the credentials of the assurances of the Prime Ministers given on the floor of the House if they are not kept. He also stated that Andhra Pradesh has not got the Central financial support as had been promised.

The Biju Janata Dal, which is seen as friendly to the government on most of the issues, also launched scathing attack on the government.
