Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh has accused state public works department minister Nagendra Singh of receiving unfair monetary gratification to bulldoze rules and promote three superintending engineers to the chief engineers’ post. Mr Singh has circulated copies of the concerned confidential reports to point out that the PWD minister changed the adverse remarks given by the state principal secretary PWD K.K. Singh in the confidential reports of two of the three concerned superintending engineers and orders to promote them as chief engineer were issued on September 19. The departmental promotion committee meeting was held to grant them promotion when the principal secretary PWD had gone on training, the Opposition leader has pointed out adding that even the deputy secretary PWD was sent on leave that day and in his place an under-secretary had represented the government at the DPC meeting. Mr Singh has further stated that the three posts of EPCO, Mandi Board and Lokayukta against which the officers have been promoted were not vacant. Prior to these promotions, these organisations had told the state government in writing that the posts in question were not vacant. Mr Singh said that besides PWD, massive irregularities have also surfaced in state water resources, and mining departments in allotment of contracts. When the Congress would come to power, all these alleged irregularities and scams would be investigated, he emphasised.
