Modi slams ‘corrupt’ regional parties in Tamil Nadu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the regional parties in Tamil Nadu as corrupt and asked the youth to save the state from corruption.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the regional parties in Tamil Nadu as corrupt and asked the youth to save the state from corruption. “The Assembly election in Tamil Nadu is not about who wins but about who will save Tamil Nadu, which has more corruption than any other place,” Mr Modi said at a mammoth election rally here.
“Corruption will not be allowed in Tamil Nadu because the BJP’s two-year rule has stood up against the shameful act of corruption,” Mr Modi said. The Prime Minister did not openly attack any regional party in Tamil Nadu but alluded to prominent leaders in Tamil Nadu who were behind the Rs 1.76 lakh crore 2G scam, a reference to former communications minister and DMK leader A. Raja and DMK MP M. Kanimozhi.
Mr Modi introduced the 10 BJP candidates contesting in constituencies in Krishnagiri and neighbouring Dharmapuri.
The PM campaign theme centred on corruption during the previous Congress regime and the rampant corruption in Tamil Nadu. He accused the state’s politicians of being “shamelessly corrupt” and appealed to the youth to vote for the BJP.
Highlighting his government’s achievements towards providing corruption-free governance, Mr Modi said, “During the previous government, news of corruption and scams was reported every day. During the previous government, a huge scam was reported in coal mine allocation.”
“Now the BJP government has brought in transparency and open auction of coal mines This put an end to corruption in coal mining and generated new employment opportunities for youth in that region. The profits earned through open auctions are being used for the development of the people in the mining areas,” Mr Modi said.
The Prime Minister also said a Rs 21,000-crore scam has been detected in distribution of subsidised domestic gas cylinders. “This irregularity has been stopped through direct payment of subsidy into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.” About five crore women have been given free gas connections to save them from inhaling toxic fumes from wooden logs. He added that the doors of banks have been opened to farmers and small traders to save them from local moneylenders.
