After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent directive to create awareness regarding the NDA government’s people-centric policies amongst masses, the Press Information Bureau has decided to hold an interaction meet between Union Cabinet ministers and top editors from across the nation at Jaipur.

“The two-day regional editors’ conference will be held on February 1 and 2 and will be attended by top Union Cabinet ministers where they will interact with the top editors,” said PIB director-general Frank Noronha. The two-day event will be inaugurated by WCD minister Maneka Gandhi and several of her Cabinet colleagues, like Nitin Gadkari, J.P. Nadda, Birender Singh, Mahesh Sharma, Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, are also expected to attend the event. I&B secretary Sunil Arora is also expected to take part.

The event is expected to discuss government policy in the social sectors and infrastructure development in the country. The meet is expected to strategise, seek views and suggestions from participants regarding the need for improvement in these sectors.

It is understood that the event is part of a changed media strategy of the Narendra Modi government which wants its achievements to percolate among the masses. It has been felt that the government’s outreach towards the media should not be confined to the national capital and should be spread across the country.

Sources said this is the first among a series of such interactions being organised by the Press Information Bureau. It is understood that other such events are also likely to take place at regular intervals, including one each in the Northeast and south India soon.

After the Modi government was sworn in, its information media strategy has seen a major overhaul. The government now promotes usage of social media as an information dissemination tool, with the Prime Minister and several of his senior Cabinet colleagues often taking to the social media to announce major policy decisions.
