Modi mingles with Opposition leaders in Upper House
Members of Parliament were in for a pleasant surprise as Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday mingled with leaders of various Opposition parties as he attended the Rajya Sabha proceedings.
Members of Parliament were in for a pleasant surprise as Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday mingled with leaders of various Opposition parties as he attended the Rajya Sabha proceedings.
The Prime Minister arrived in the House minutes ahead of the scheduled start of House proceedings at 11 am and went around greeting Opposition leaders seated in the front rows.
He greeted Congress leaders A.K. Antony, Anand Sharma and Pramod Tiwari, as well as Mayawati and Satish Mishra of the BSP. He shook hands with Dilip Kumar Tikey of the BJD and greeted the TMC’s Sukhendu Sekhar Roy. The Prime Minister also moved into aisle where he met Left leaders, including Sitaram Yechury and T.K. Rangarajan. Mr Modi had a brief but animated chat with Mr Yechury during which he also placed his arm on his shoulder as well as that of Mr Rangarajan.
As the House proceedings began and five MPs took oath or affirmation of allegiance to the Constitution, Mr Modi sat at his designated seat next to Leader of the House Arun Jaitley.
MPs, after taking oath, greeted the PM with folded hands and he warmly acknowledged their greetings. The PM left the House after the oath ceremony.
