In an early start to the election campaign for the 2017 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, 17 ministers of the Modi government will tour 23 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state this month.

The ministers who will be touring the state include, among others, Manohar Parrikar (Agra), Nitin Gadkari (Lucknow), Ananth Kumar (Gorakhpur), Radhey Mohan Singh (Moradabad and Aligarh), Smriti Irani (Amethi), Harsh Vardhan (Saharanpur) and Ram Vilas Paswan (Allahabad).

Other ministers assigned the task are Mr Piyush Goyal, Mr Rajyavardhan Singh, Mr Ram Kripal Yadav and Mr Giriraj Singh.

“The programmes of these ministers has been finalised and that of the rest will be confirmed shortly,” said state BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak.

The ministers will camp in their assigned constituencies for two days each and will meet party workers as well as people from different walks of life.

“The idea is to get a feedback from the party workers as well as common people about the next government in the state and also what they want from the Modi government in the upcoming Union Budget. Besides, the ministers will be asked to make a conscious effort to dispel the misinformation that is being spread by the Congress and the social media about the Modi government,” said a party functionary.

The party hopes to get a positive outcome from the “meaningful discussions” that the ministers hold at various levels. The ministers have been asked to “reach beyond” the designated groups that the state unit gets them to meet.

Ministers who will be sent to UP are from other states and this is a conscious decision, keeping in mind the factional wars among state leaders. The ministers will be submitting their report to the PMO and this will also help in designing the poll campaign for UP.
