Minor girl raped in Odisha

A minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth at a slum near Science Park under Saheed Nagar police limits in the Odisha capital on Diwali night.

According to reports, one Linga Nayak of the slum went to the victim’s house on around 8.30pm in an inebriated state with a knife in his hand. He threatened the victim’s father, mother and sister and took the girl to the backyard of her house. Later, the accused raped her till late night.

Though the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the Saheed Nagar police on the very night, the police allegedly didn’t heed. The police’s response was similar when they approached the Mahila police on Thursday, the victim said.

After Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi came to know, a case was registered on Wednesday at the Saheed Nagar police station after his orders. The accused is still at large.

Police have started conducting raids at different places to nab the accused, the DCP said.
