Hours after Pakistani high commissioner Abdul Basit met Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi where the home secretary conveyed to Mr Basit that all necessary arrangements are in place and ‘’there is no cause for concern’’, the Union home ministry intimated the Bureau of Immigration of the team’s arrival on Friday night and directed that their smooth entry and security concerns are ensured.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said India has always ensured security for foreigners and there should be “no doubt” about it.
“Anyone who comes to India will be given security. Not only Pakistan, but citizen of any country who comes to India is always provided security. There should be no doubt about it,” he said on the sidelines of on the sidelines of the 47th Raising Day celebrations of CISF.
Top sources in the home ministry said Islamabad has been given an ‘’assurance’’ on the issue that the team’s security will be ensured, however, ‘’no written assurance’’ has been given as earlier demanded by Islamabad.
“It has never been the practice that written assurance has been given by any host country to the member countries of ensuring security of teams. However, all concerns have been addre-ssed,” a top official said.
The Union home ministry will be in touch with the West Bengal government and other states hosting the cricket event even as state governments hosting the event will take the lead in providing security cover at the venues and when the foreign teams are travelling.
Escort vehicles, commandos provided by the state police, will escort the teams while tight security arrangements will be made inside and outside the venue.
