MHA alert on infiltration bid

In what is being viewed as a direct fallout of the visit of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed to the borders over the past few days, at least 100 militants are said to have been moved to the launch pads along the Indo-Pak border for infiltration into the Kashmir Valley.
According to highly-placed home ministry sources, Central intelligence agencies who have been closely monitoring Saeed’s movement have already alerted about a infiltration attempt from across the border over the next few weeks.
The issue was flagged and discussed in detail during a high-level meeting chaired by home minister Rajnath Singh last week which deliberated upon various security and development issues related to Jammu and Kashmir. Among those who were present at this meeting were defence minister Manohar Parrikar, J&K governor N.N. Vohra, national security adviser Ajit Doval and senior officials from the ministries of home and defence.
The home ministry had alerted the Army and the BSF a few days ago when intelligence inputs revealed the presence of Saeed in villages close to the border along with senior officials of the Pak Army and Rangers. Saeed had also visited terrorist training camps in the region, instigating the cadres to cross over into Kashmir to carry out major strikes. Another purpose of Saeed’s visit to the region was to rope in fresh recruits for his terror activities.
“There is no denying the fact that Saeed’s visit to the border areas and this sudden movement of terrorists to the launch pads are directly linked. We were expecting some developments due to Saeed’s presence in the region and now that this deployment of terror cadres has happened, a slew of preventive measures are being pout in place. Due to timely intelligence inputs, the security grid in the Kashmir Valley was also seized of the matter,” a senior home ministry official said.
As a preventive measure, sources said, deployment along the border has been beefed up and reinforcements have been rushed there to prevent major infiltration attempts.
