In the backdrop of the on-going Army operation against infiltrators in the Keran sector of Kashmir, India has said that the maintenance of the sanctity of the LoC is of primary importance and that a call on what is to be done further will be taken once the Army is done with its job. The Army has been battling armed infiltrators in the Keran sector for two weeks now. While India suspects Pak Army involvement in this infiltration, this was denied by Pak high commissioner Salman Bashir on Sunday. On Monday, external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said India has repeatedly emphasised the maintenance of the sanctity of the LoC of primary importance. He said that even at the last meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pak PM Nawaz Sharif, “this issue was re-emphasised”. He further said that at present, the “armed forces are undertaking necessary, appropriate measures and we will await the outcome”. Asked if the DGMOs (Directors General of Military Operations) of India and Pakistan will meet as was agreed when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York late last month, the spokesperson said they talk every Tuesday. He added, “The issue of when they will meet will depend on the outcome of their talks telephonically... Right now the challenge is to ensure that our armed forces complete their job and the outcome of those efforts... if there is a requirement for us to take this further ahead, we will do so.”
