MEA admits Geeta not related to Mahtos
It’s official now.
It’s official now. The DNA test of Ms Geeta — the hearing and speech-impaired young woman who had returned to India recently over a decade after inadvertently crossing into Pakistan — did not match with the Mahto family from Bihar. The Asian Age had first reported on November 1 that the DNA samples had returned negative, confirming that Mahtos were not Ms Geeta’s parents.
Sources further said that the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences has not got any more samples for DNA testing as of now. MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, “It is true that we had done DNA test of Geeta. The Mahto family had come forward and seeing their pictures, Geeta had felt perhaps they are her parents. Their DNA test was also conducted. Her DNA test was negative,” Mr Swarup said. The report, prepared by AIIMS, has been sent to the Mahato family, he said.
Mr Swarup said that the Ms Sushma Swaraj will travel to Indore on November 23 to meet Geeta and enquire about her well-being. Earlier, Ms Geeta had failed to recognise the family after arriving in New Delhi last month even though she had earlier indicated in Pakistan that they might be her parent
