IAS officer Ajey Singh Gangwar who was slapped with transfer order for admiring his “icon”, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, in a FB post, has hinted at quitting his job if harassed further by the Madhya Pradesh government.
The Barwani district collector, who was shifted to the state secretariat as deputy secretary after his FB post eulogising Nehru sparked a row in both the administration as well as the ruling BJP circles here, was upset that he was taken to task by the state government for expressing his view.
“I may consider resigning from job, if I am harassed further”, he told reporters here.
“Given an opportunity (by the state government) I will place my stand on the matter”, he said, and, added, “They (Madhya Pradesh government) are promoting certain icons and I was praising someone else (Nehru). What is wrong (in it) ”
Mr Gangwar’s clarification comes in the wake of reports of state government mulling to serve a notice on him seeking an explanation on his supporting a political ideology.
The speculation follows a notice served on Narasinghpur district collector C B Chakravarti seeking an explanation from him for greeting TN chief minister Jayalalitha on her winning second successive term in office in a post in Twitter.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Raj Babbar on Saturday took a swipe at the state BJP government for shunting out Mr Gangwar for praising Nehru.
“It is nothing but high handedness by the state government”, Mr Babbar who was here on a day’s visit to MP, regretted.
