Mathura violence: Samajwadis deny party involvement

Senior UP minister and party spokesman Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday reacted strongly to the BJP’s allegation of his and other party leaders’ involvement in the Mathura clashes.

Senior UP minister and party spokesman Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday reacted strongly to the BJP’s allegation of his and other party leaders’ involvement in the Mathura clashes.

BJP president Amit Shah, while addressing a Buddha conference in Kanpur on Saturday, had demanded the resignation of Shivpal Singh Yadav amidst reports that the minister had patronised the sects of Jai Gurudev. The mastermind of the clashes, Ram Vraksh Yadav, represented the rebel group of the sect.

“Law and order in Uttar Pradesh has become ‘low and order’ and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav should first take the resignation of his chacha (uncle) on this issue,” Mr Shah said.

Shivpal Singh Yadav, in a statement, dared the BJP leader to either prove his allegations or apologise.

“The BJP president is spreading misinformation and trying to mislead the people for political gains. If he has any proof against me, he should place it before the people and must tender an unconditional apology for maligning my image,” he said.

Mr Yadav said the BJP could not find any issues against the Akhilesh government and was, therefore, spreading canards. He slammed BSP president Mayawati and suggested she should verify facts before levelling charges against the Akhilesh government.

Earlier, Mayawati had criticised the state for not being “serious” about the Mathura incident and had also attacked the chief minister for not bothering to visit Mathura.

“She comes to UP as a political tourist and issues irrelevant statements. As chief minister, has she ever visited any place where a crisis situation has prevailed ” he asked.

UPCC leader Satyadeo Tripathi said that the squatters could not hold siege to the park for almost two years without having the patronage of some senior ministers.
