Slain superintendent of police Mukul Dwivedi, who died during a clash with encroachers at Jawahar Bagh, Mathura, was famous among senior police officials for his crisis management skills.

Dwivedi was struck thrice on his helmeted head by one of the “satyagrahis” with a chopper. He suffered three heart attacks on the way to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

“Mukul sir was the best officer. He was known for his negotiation and crisis management skills. That was the reason he was sent to Jawahar Bagh on Thursday to control the situation peacefully, but the situation went berserk and all of sudden he was attacked. It seems that he was aimed and killed,” said a police officer, who was also a part of the police team that was targeted by alleged satyagrahis.

“Mr Dwivedi was familiar with the demography and geography of Mathura district as he served the district as the deputy superintendent of police for two years. Later, he was transferred to Saharanpur to control riots. Around seven months back, he was promoted to superintendent of police and posted in Mathura again. His death is a big loss to the entire police force,” said a senior police official.

Dwivedi, a native of Auriya district, is survived by his wife and two sons.
