Senior Congress leader and the sitting Rajya Sabha member Chaudhary Birender Singh on Sunday said there are many people who have made billions through politics. “Nowadays, if somebody does not find anything else to do, then the best profession (dhanda) is politics. If people fail in business, in government jobs, cannot become a good engineer, doctor or lawyer, then they join politics. And many of them succeed in such a way, they play not in millions but in billions and try to crush the right people in politics,” Mr Singh said at a gathering in Ambala, according to an agency report. Mr Singh had earlier kicked up a row with his “'100 crore for a Rajya Sabha seat remark”. Reacting to Mr Singh’s remarks, former IPS officer and activist Kiran Bedi said that politicians should declare their assets before becoming ministers and after ceasing to be one and, if the difference was found to be huge, the matter should be probed. Lawyer and AAP member Prashant Bhushan said Chaudhary’s remarks were “absolutely correct” and noted that politics had become an easy route for many to make money.
