Amid a raging debate over her remark that prenatal sex determination tests be made compulsory to check female foeticide, women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi clarified Tuesday there was no such formal proposal for prenatal sex determination, and the idea was only at the discussion stage.
It was “an idea given by some stakeholders”, Ms Gandhi’s ministry tweeted. Ms Gandhi said in Jaipur Monday that “in my personal view, (a) woman should be compulsorily told whether it is a boy or girl... she is going to give birth to. I am just putting out this idea”.
