The Bihar Cabinet on Tuesday gave its assent for the creation of 46 posts of various levels for the Bihar Development Mission, which is headed by Mr Prashant Kishor, the chief minister’s adviser for planning and development.
The decision came amid reports that Mr Kishor was creating a team of professionals for the mission. The mission focuses mainly on finding resources to solve problems and to ensure timely implementation of schemes.
During the formation of the Bihar Development Mission last month, CM Nitish Kumar had asked officials to focus on the early implementation of his “Seven-Point Agenda” for development and had also associated his adviser Prashant Kishor with the project.
In another important decision, the state government relaxed the norms for mandatory toilets in the homes of candidates contesting panchayat elections in March this year. Earlier, the state government had issued a directive quoting the Bihar State Panchayati Raj Act of 2006 to make toilet in candidates houses compulsory for contesting panchayat elections.
Former deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, after the decision was announced, welcomed the move. He said, “The decision would have stopped many genuine candidates from contesting panchayat elections. It is the government’s duty to build toilets for 1.5 crore houses in the state.”
