A man set his wife on fire in Bulandshahar district because she could not bear him a son. The incident took place on June 14 and the victim died on June 20. The police took no action in the matter initially, but later arrested Manoj Bansal and eight other family members under pressure from the people.
The two daughters of the victim have now taken to social networking sites to seek justice for their mother. The father of the girls, Manoj, is a marketing officer in an automobile company and he married the victim Anu in 2000.
The couple had two daughters, but Manoj wanted a son and would often beat Anu for not bearing him a son. He even forced Anu to go for abortion five times because she was apparently carrying a female child.
On June 14, he threw kerosene on Anu and set her on fire. Manoj , who is also an alcoholic, was supported by his family in his cruelty. Anu was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, where she breathed her last on June 20.
Her daughters, Latika and Tanya, are now using social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, to pass the message around of how their father burnt and killed their mother.
In a heart rending message, Latika (15) had posted the entire sequence of events on her Facebook page and has requested people to share her post so that she and her sister can get some help from the government.
