A day after a 35-year-old man walked around 25 km carrying body of his four-year-old son on his shoulders after an ambulance dropped them midway following the child’s death on his way to hospital; the Odisha government on Sunday suspended two persons for showing disrespect to the dead.

According to reports, driver of a 108 Ambulance service and a call centre employee in Puri district were suspended from their jobs over the incident.

The action comes after National Health Mission (NHM) director Shalini Pandit instructed to place the duo under suspension.

The ambulance driver reportedly refused to carry the body of a four-year-old boy from Tubuka village under Krushnachandrapur block who died late on Friday night while on the way to Chhatrapur hospital in the ambulance.

The driver dropped them midway despite requests from the family members.
