Mamata opens new secretariat
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday formally inaugurated the new state secretariat in HRBC Building at Mandirtala. Nabanna (new crop), as the new secretariat has been christened by Ms Banerjee is located across river Hooghly and is close to the Kona Expressway.

Ms Banerjee who was given a guard of honour by the police unfurled the national tricolour heralding the official opening of the Nabanna. With the iconic Writers’ Buildings undergoing restoration, Saturday’s affair at the Nabanna, which is painted blue and white, was described by many as unfurling of the new dawn of Bengal’s administration. There was almost a mood of festivity ahead of the Durga Puja. The Vidyasagar Setu was adorned with floral gates and balloons to welcome the chief minister at her new office. State transport and sports minister Madan Mitra was seen monitoring the affairs at the second Hooghly Bridge. The whole area was under tight security including security personnel, dog squads, fire tenders and others. Separate lanes were made for the entry of the of the VVIPs and other officials. Ms Banerjee arrived at her office at 12.42 pm where she formally threw it open amidst sounds of bugles and conch shells. She marked the occasion by hoisting the flag around 12.45 pm and was also given the guard of honour.
