West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee finally bid adieu to the Writers’ Buildings, though temporarily, because of the renovation and restoration work being carried out at the premises. Although she did not go to the office on Friday, since it was a holiday, but her furniture, important files and even her favourite easel on which she did her paintings were shifted from her chamber at Writers’ Buildings to the 14th floor of the Nabanno (as she has named the HRBC Building at Howrah’s Mandirtala). The chief minister would officially inaugurate the building, which is painted blue and white, on Saturday at 12.30 pm amidst the sound of bagpipes and conch shells. The Kolkata police, Howrah commissionerate and fire brigade did a survey on Friday. There was a huge rush at the Writers’ Buildings as even the metal detectors were shifted to the new secretariat at HRBC on this day. The CMO’s office was shifted as the office was operational till Thursday from Writer’s Buildings. Not only the office of the chief minister, but also that of the chief secretary and home secretary were shifted on this day. However, some of the packed files were found at the corridors of the Writers’ Buildings. Sources said that some of the important files of the backward class were lying on the floor. A section of the employees said that all the files were yet to be shifted. However, the remaining shifting would be completed within Monday, as all the departments would shift by Monday. Meanwhile, at the HRBC building, eight gardens would be constructed in the vacant area of the building. Sources said that the project was taken up as the chief minister favoured greenery.
