Exquisite Pashmina from Kashmir, Lucknow’s famous ‘chikankaari,’ delicate marble work from Rajasthan, colourful Kantha creations and many more crafts made by artisans from the minority communities from across the country will be displayed at the forthcoming India International Trade Fair (IITF), at Hunar Haat here from November 14.

The ministry has decided to bear all expenses of artisans, including their stay in the national capital and their daily expenses.

Minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has written to chief ministers (CM) of all the states to highlight the issue through their respective department so that maximum number of artisans and craftsmen could benefit from the initiative.

The ministry’s National Minority Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) is participating in this year’s IITF under the banner of USTTAD (Upgrading Skills and Training in Traditional Arts Crafts for Development) scheme. Mr Naqvi said the minority affairs ministry is making all efforts to make sure that this ‘Hunar Haat’ has representation from all states and has asked the state governments to send the applications by October 25.

“This initiative will provide an excellent platform to thousands of artisans belonging to minority communities from across the nation to display their arts and skills before the domestic and international visitors,” said Mr Naqvi, while adding the ‘Hunar Haat’ is one of the many initiatives taken by the ministry to fulfill Narendra Modi government’s promise of ‘Sabha Saath, Sabka Vikas.’

The exhibition will include artefacts made with cane and bamboo in north eastern states, embroidery (chikan) work, and Jardoji clothes work of UP.
