Maharashtra MPs want Devendra Fadnavis meet

Members of Parliament from Maharashtra have demanded that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis call a meeting of MPs to apprise them of the state’s developmental projects pending before the Centre.

Members of Parliament from Maharashtra have demanded that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis call a meeting of MPs to apprise them of the state’s developmental projects pending before the Centre.

While Shiv Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire has already spoken to Mr Fadnavis, Congress MP Rajeev Satav on Tuesday said he will write a letter to the CM in this regard.

Another Shiv Sena MP, Shrirang Appa Barne, said he had already written a letter to the CM for the meeting. All the three leaders are sitting Lok Sabha members. While the Shiv Sena is an ally of the BJP at the Centre and in Maharashtra, the Congress is the main Opposition.

The Maharashtra CM usually holds such a meeting during the Budget Session of Parliament either in New Delhi or Mumbai to apprise MPs of the pending projects of the state with the Centre, with a request that they should follow it up. This exercise not only makes them aware of such projects but involves them in the developmental activities, cutting across party line.

Some state MPs claim they observed a change in the attitude of the bureaucracy in Maharashtra. Earlier, officials gave due respect to the representatives of the people when they went to government offices for public work. But now they are cool in the response. “Some officials do not even offer us minimum courtesies. This was never the culture of Maharashtra,” said an MP.
