Lucknow clerics: ISIS un-Islamic

Senior Sunni cleric Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali on Thursday said that the ISIS was “un-Islamic” and was against humanity.

Senior Sunni cleric Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali on Thursday said that the ISIS was “un-Islamic” and was against humanity.

Addressing a congregation of Muslims at the Idgah after the Id prayers, the Maulana, accompanied by other clerics, said there was a need to send out a strong message against the ISIS.

“We said the ISIS is against Islam and against humanity. We said that the ISIS cannot be Muslim — their terror activities are entirely un-Islamic,” he told reporters later.

The statement by clerics comes after two terror attacks in Bangladesh within one week, the second one on Thursday morning.

The maulana said that Islam preaches brotherhood and humanity and any group that leads violence in the name of religion cannot claim to be Islamic. He said that the ideology practised by the ISIS was now defunct.

Four persons were killed and several injured in a terror attack during Id prayers at Kishanganj, about 140 km from Dhaka, Thursday morning.

Last weekend, seven terrorists attacked a popular cafe in Dhaka and hacked 20 people to death, including 18 foreigners.

Meanwhile, women in large numbers participated in Id prayers on Thursday. A special enclosure was made for the first time to allow women to join the prayers.
