Left slams RSS’ tribal policies

The CPI(M) criticised the tribal policy of the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh and expressed concern over the growing activities of the Hindutva outfit among the tribals of the northeastern states in the name of preventing the influence of the Church and other Christian organisations. The party is also apprehensive about their intention to provoke the Christian and non-Christian tribals against each other as already witnessed in Orissa, Jharkhand and other places. A book recently released by the CPI(M) state committee titled Policy Document of CPI(M) on Tribal Problems said that the Banabashi Kalyan Ashram, a RSS affiliated organisation is trying to bring all the tribals in the Hindu fold and trying to impose Brahminical Hindu practices on them. It is being done ignoring the fact that these animist tribals have their distinct religious belief, worshiping method and practices. The book also objected the RSS policy of identifying these people as “banabashi” instead of “tribal” and see an attempt in it to keep them confined inside the forest only and to distort the history.
