‘Law will catch up with corrupt’

Maintaining that the five-year jail term to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam will send out a strong message to those indulging in corruption, the BJP and its former ally JD(U) welcomed the judgment. Welcoming the five-year jail term to Yadav, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the fodder scam was the biggest scam of its time and Yadav’s imprisonment for his involvement in it will send out a strong message. “If you are indulging in corruption, law catches up with you and this is the message I would like to highlight,” said Mr Prasad, a lawyer in the case. The BJP also hoped that there will be similar judgments punishing the guilty in cases of “monumental” corruption like 2G spectrum, Coalgate, and Commonwealth Games. BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said, the BJP feels “this is a very important milestone in the fight against corruption. The whole country was up against corruption and wanted results. CWG, 2G spectrum and coal allocation scams are cases of monumental corruption and people are waiting for results. Corruption cannot be the mainstay of politics. People are waiting for the verdicts on these cases.” Echoing similar view, the JD(U) said the verdict will be a reminder to people sitting in high offices that the law will catch up with them wherever they are if they indulge in corruption. “Nobody could deny that Yadav has his influence (in politics) but the kind of verdict which has been delivered today would certainly weaken RJD. The long arms of law will get people involved in corruption,” JD(U) MP Shabir Ali said. The BJP also hinted that the RJD’s core vote base of Yadavs will look for other options.
