With over 40 depositions before it against the official amendments, the parliamentary panel examining the contentious land acquisition bill may ask for a week’s extension to submit the report.
With over 40 depositions before it against the official amendments, the parliamentary panel examining the contentious land acquisition bill may ask for a week’s extension to submit the report. With the Winter Session of Parliament commencing from July 21, the panel is reportedly running behind schedule to wind up examining the stakeholders before finalising the report. The government is also opening all options after having come across dissent against the contentious bill from within the ranks of the RSS affiliates, besides farmers’ bodies who have so far made presentation before the parliamentary panel. The chairman of the joint committee of Parliament on the land bill S.S. Ahluwalia is likely to seek extension from Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to finish the task, sources said.
