We gained in first 2 phases, says Amit
BJP president Amit Shah on Monday accused Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav of trying to turn the Assembly election into a “battle between the backwards and upper castes”, and vowed that the BJP was “committed” to reservations and had no plans to tinker with the existing policy.
On the backfoot after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks led to a huge row, the BJP chief said: “We are not against the reservation policy, it’s the Grand Secular Alliance which is diverting the issue by doing politics of backwards and forwards.” During their campaign, JD(U) and RJD leaders had said Mr Bhagwat’s call for a review of the reservations policy was “dangerous for the people”.
In his first press conference after the elections began, Mr Shah said the NDA had “done very well” in the first two phases, dismissing reports that the Grand Alliance was gaining ground.
The BJP president claimed that the NDA had gained in 32 to 34 seats in the first phase and in 22 to 24 seats in the second phase. It would do even better in the last three phases, he added.
