: Kerala businessman tycoon Mohammed Nisham, who in a fit of rage rammed his luxury car Hummer against a security guard leading to his death last year, was sentenced to life and slapped a fine of Rs 71 lakh on Thursday.
Nisham was drunk, and enraged because of the delay in opening the gate of the township when he reached there at 3.30 a.m. after a party. Infuriated with the delay, the businessmen reportedly drove his SUV into the guard, pinning him into the wall, then got out of the car to beat him up.
Earlier on Wednesday, Nisham was held guilty by the trial court in Thrissur. “The accused has been found guilty under IPC section 302 (murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (i) (death threat), 427 (destruction of property) and 447 (criminal trespass),” the judge had said while announcing the verdict.
During the trial, 79 hearings were conducted in the case in which Nisham was charged with brutally attacking the watchman with a Hummer at Shobha city here on January 30 last year. Chandrabose later died in the hospital.
Among the charges slapped by the police, IPC section 341 (forceful restraint), and 291 (for verbal abuse) were dropped by the trial court.
Nisham had sought leniency from the court saying that he was suffering from bi-polar disorder and that he has an aged mother, two children and several employees and workers who were dependent on him.
