A day after announcing an alternate day private vehicle plan to curb pollution, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday said the measure will be tested for a limited period and will be stopped if there are too many problems.
He said many things were yet to be thrashed out, including exemption for certain private vehicles, after experts and Opposition parties questioned the practicability of the plan in which vehicles with odd and even number plates will be allowed to ply on alternate days from January 1, 2016.
“In principle, a decision has been taken. Many things are yet to be thrashed out... We will experiment with it for some time. Maybe for 15 days. If there are too many problems, it will be stopped,” he said.
He said his government had planned to introduce the scheme at a later stage but was forced to take the drastic step in the wake of the Delhi high court’s observation that Delhi has become a “gas chamber”.
