Keep the student inside you alive: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that one must always keep the “student” in oneself alive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that one must always keep the “student” in oneself alive.

“You must nurture the student in you and keep the curiosity alive. ‘Jigyasa’ (curiosity) will never allow you to stagnate and will help you in achieving your goals in life”, he said while addressing the 98th convocation at the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi on Monday.

The PM asked students to take full advantage of the opportunities being offered to them in the university life before they step out into the real world.

“It may seem very easy when you are within the four walls of the university but when you step out and start leading life on your own, you realise that there were a lot of things that you should have paid attention to. The same people who support you in your college life, would be asking questions once you complete your education”, he said. He urged the youth to take pride in India’s rich heritage and culture. The PM further said that India was facing challenges and it was the youth that should think about ways to overcome these challenges. He said that the youth must also think what role the country can play in the global world. He said students must think out of the box innovative solutions to universal challenges like climate change and global warming.

“Why can’t one of you find a solution to the problem of sugarcane farmers of Uttar Pradesh by working on a cost effective sugarcan-e–based ethanol for vehicles which will check vehicular pollution as well as provide a cheap alternative to people ” he asked. He asked student to resist the temptation of ‘cut-paste’ knowledge and to look for Indian answers to typically Indian problems.

He said that he had invited some personal guests at the convocation and they happened to be students form government schools. “I want these students to see what the convocation is all about and this will give them a chance to dream for themselves too. I am sure that these school children will take a resolve to win medals when they grow up to the university level”, he said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Ravidas temple in Shir Govardhan where he offered prayers and participated in the community feast.
