The Karnataka government on Tuesday reiterated in the Supreme Court its plea that the Karnataka high court judgment acquitting Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa of charges that she possesses assets disproportionate to her known sources of income must be reversed and that she should be convicted for the offence.

On January 8 the apex court had granted two weeks to Karnataka, DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan and the four respondents — Ms Jayalalithaa, Ms Sasikala, Mr Sudhagaran and Ms Ilavarasi — to file written submissions on issues that required determination and adjudication.

In its application listing the issues in the appeals filed by counsel J. Aristotle against Ms Jayalalithaa’s acquittal, the state said, “If the mathematical errors in totalling in Justice Kumaraswamy’s judgment is corrected, the DA comes to '16,32,36,812 as against Rs 2,82,36,812 as held by the high court. Consequently the judgment is liable to be converted into one of conviction.”
