‘Jaish youth under police radar for 6 months’

“All the youths were under the police radar for the last six months.

“All the youths were under the police radar for the last six months. On Wednesday, we got a tipoff that suspect Sajid had suffered a burn injury in his left palm Tuesday night while assembling an IED along with associate Shakir in his tailoring shop in the Chand Bagh area. A police team raided his shop and detained the duo from the spot,” said a senior police official.

During the interrogation, Sajid was confronted with the evidence the police had collected against him in the past six months. At this he broke down and revealed that he was a member of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammad and of the incident that led to the singeing of his left palm.

“We have recovered one live IED, one damaged IED and 250 gram black powder, M-seal, timers and raw material used for preparation of further IEDs from the ground floor of Sajid’s house. A bomb squad and a CFSL team also visited the spot and collected forensic evidence,” said a senior police official.

The police said all JeM members were in touch with each other via social media platforms. On December 20, 2015, a meeting was held at Sajid’s house in the Chand Bagh area of Gokulpuri, where all the members assembled.

At the meeting, videos of (JeM chief) Maulana Masood Azhar were shown and members were ordered to conduct a survey of malls and markets in order to plant bombs.
