A day after a bullet pierced his shoulder while he was on duty at Thane police headquarters, 22-year-old police constable Sagar Malunjkar is still unconscious and battling for his life at a private hospital. With Sagar not having regained consciousness after getting hit Thursday midnight, the police has no clue whether he shot himself or was shot.
It is still unclear whether Sagar, who was posted at the Thane police headquarters, misfired from his weapon or attempted suicide by allegedly shooting himself. Police sources revealed the incident occurred around 12 midnight on Thursday, when Sagar who is posted as station guard, was patrolling the corridors.
“His fellow cops heard a loud noise and rushed to the spot to see Sagar on the floor with blood flowing from his shoulders. They rushed him to Jupiter Hospital where he was admitted. The doctors said that a bullet had pierced his left shoulder,-" said a police source. The source added that Sagar had been recruited into the force in 2014 and as his first posting, was stationed at the police headquarters.
Authorities at the Jupiter Hospital said that the patient had lost a lot of blood and also developed an infection due to a bullet piercing his shoulder. “He is in comatose and is critical. We have placed him under observation and will be checking on him,” said a hospital authority.
