The Centre beefed up security measures at critical establishments across India Tuesday, particularly airports and metros, after the multiple blasts in Brussels claimed many lives. All states and security agencies, including the CISF, were directed to strengthen security at airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Within hours of the Brussels attacks, bomb threats to five Jet Airways flight set off panic among passengers at New Delhi’s IGI Airport, but security sources said “no adverse report” was received from any airport and three planes that had got bomb threats had already flown to their destinations — Gorakhpur, Chandigarh and Dehradun.
A hoax is suspected, but sources clarified all threat were being taken seriously.
The CISF raised its vigil at Delhi Metro stations and trains, while security was upgraded at metro services in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru and elsewhere.
