Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy, who hails from Telangana region, while talking to mediapersons said, “I am very happy. The people of Telangana had been demanding a separate state for the last 60 years and we are grateful to the UPA government as well as the Congress. I am hopeful that the bill for the creation of Telangana will be passed in the Winter Session.” When asked about the division within the Cabinet over the issue he said, “A strong agitation is going on against the creation of Telangana state in the Seemandhra region and being the representatives of people there, the ministers have reflected that sentiment.” The Union Cabinet has given the go-ahead to the divisive issue despite stiff Opposition from the Seemandhra leaders, including AP chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, and in a bid to assuage them, the Congress set up the A.K. Antony panel to look into their grievances. But since Mr Antony is not in the best of health there has been no forward movement on sorting out the differences of leaders from both the regions.
