Coming out in full support of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that he had spoken his mind and nobody had the right to ask him to leave the country.

Addressing a massive rally organised by Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind at Shahid Minar Maidan, Ms Banerjee said, “Whether Aamir Khan’s comment is right or wrong is not the issue. He has said what he felt as an Indian. He is within his democratic rights to make any comment. Who are you to tell him to leave the country ”

Ms Banerjee said that India belonged to every citizen and no one had exclusive rights over the country. “It is our place of birth, our motherland, our fatherland. They are making comments as if the country is only theirs. This country is for all. None has the right to say that you leave the country and go to Pakistan,” she said.

Meanwhile, a judge of the Madras high court also supported Aamir, saying there was nothing wrong with him sharing with the people the contents of conversation between him and his wife.

Justice D. Hariparanthaman said “the actor had only expressed his shock when his wife put forth the idea of going to some other country due to growing intolerance”.
