: A National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Sunday morning, while he was returning home after attending a wedding in Bijnor.

The officer has been identified as Tanzil Ahmed, deputy superintendent of police with the NIA. He and his wife were travelling in a WagonR, when unidentified men riding a motorcycle shot the couple and fled from the scene.

-"He was attending his niece's marriage. He was with his wife and two children. Two bike-borne assailants shot fire at them. They were referred to the Cosmos hospital,-" Station House Officer Rajkumar said.

While Tanzil succumbed to his injuries, his wife is in critical condition and has been admitted to a hospital in Noida.

Tanzil’s body has been kept in a Moradabad hospital and NIA and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) teams have reached there to carry out their investigation into the crime.
