The government faced major embarrassment in the Lok Sabha Wednesday as both railway minister Suresh Prabhu and minister of state Manoj Sinha were not in the House when a question on the ministry came up.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan issed a stricture this shouldn’t happen again, forcing parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu to apologise to the House. “I am sorry for what happened. It will not be repeated,” he said.
The incident happened during Question Hour when the Speaker took up a question (No. 147) on the “Go-India Smart Card”.
As Mr Prabhu and Mr Sinha were both absent, Congress members led by Mallikarjun Kharge strongly protested, asking why ministers were absent when questions on their ministry were listed.
