UP governor wants white paper on land grab
UP governor Ram Naik has asked the Akhilesh government to publish a white paper on cases of “land-grabbing” in Uttar Pradesh and report of action taken against land sharks.
UP governor Ram Naik has asked the Akhilesh government to publish a white paper on cases of “land-grabbing” in Uttar Pradesh and report of action taken against land sharks.
The move comes after the police tried to clear the Jawahar Bagh of squatters and this led to clashes, which left two police officials and 27 others dead.
The governor is apparently upset over the manner in which the government handled the situation and has demanded to know the cost of total land grabbed by mafia in the state.
Mr Naik had also asked for an action taken report on Mathura, Dadri and Kairana.
The governor’s move asking the state government for a white paper on the issue of land grabbing has caused severe embarrassment to the Akhilesh government.
A senior minister said, “The governor is apparently working in tandem with the BJP, which has set up a helpline for such cases. The governor would do well not to work like a political activist and maintain the dignity of the office he holds”.
Meanwhile, BJP’s helpline to identify encroachments across the state has so far brought 470 complaints from different parts of the state. The BJP’s “kabja.hatao@bjp.org” that was launched by the state unit on the directives of BJP president Amit Shah after the June 2 clashes in Jawahar Bagh in Mathura during an eviction drive, had asked people to submit complaints of illegal possession of land or property and the party would take it up.
