In a major bureaucratic re-shuffle, the government on Saturday shunted out telecom secretary Rakesh Garg to the minority affairs ministry, 10 months ahead of his retirement, even as 10 new secretaries have been appointed in various Central ministries and other organisations.

J.S. Deepak has been app-ointed as the new secretary, department of telecommunications. Mr Deepak, a 1982 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is at present secretary, dep-artment of electronics and information technology.

A 1980-batch IAS officer, Mr Garg has been appointed secretary in the minority affairs ministry in place of Amarendra Sinha, who is holding additional charge of the post, an order issued by the personnel ministry said. Mr Garg had taken over as telecom secretary on July 17, 2014 and he is due to retire in November.

Aruna Sharma, at present working in her cadre state Madhya Pradesh, has been appointed as secretary, department of electronics and information technology, in place of Mr Deepak, it said.

Krishan Kumar Jalan, who is central provident fund commissioner in the Employees’ Provident Fu-nd Organisation, has been appointed as secretary, ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises.
